Alzheimer's Reading Room: A Virtual Alzheimer's Support Group

In this post Bob DeMarco discusses the possibilities of a virtual support group requesting suggestions and comments on this idea from readers of his blog.
On a personal note I know when I receive comments or even a new follower I can't help but feel a "lifting of spirits" knowing that someone read something I posted and was inspired to comment on it.  Just having followers allows me to imagine that someone out there is reading my posts (whether they actually are or not).  So in a sense these people who comment on my posts are my support group which I must say has helped me through some difficult times.
I would encourage all who read my blog regularly to please consider becoming a follower and comment freely for all the reasons I have listed above.  My thanks go out to you in advance.

  1. Kerry,
I love reading about your times with your mother. As you know my mom lost her battle with this disease almost 2 years ago. I love your humor and your love for your mom

  3. On yesterdays post of Bob DeMarco's article A Virtual Alzheimer's Support Group you made the following comment:

For me a regular support group is not an option. I would have to give up blogging and use that time to go. With my own children still in our home along with caring for my mother Lily I do not have time to add one more thing. Blogging is my therapeutic outlet reminding me to look for the humor while dealing with the reality of this disease..

Because of this I would encourage all to please consider becoming a follower to the blogs you read regularly and to freely comment on their posts.

To this your comment Kerry todayI added this comment that follows:

Kerry, this is then ideal for you. I get so much out of this kind of blogging as you do. A reply, a comment, the addition of a follower tickles me no end.

Writing is my outlet through which I better understand myself. Writing is also an enjoyable pastime and a fulfilling undertaking. It involves putting together ideas on various issues and weaving them into some sensible whole. Doing that I give myself a gift: "A work well done Mike!" kind of gift.

When I choose to share my finished product on my blog, this blog or others that I follow, I am pleased no end when someone lets me know: "Hey that was helpful to me," or "I sure agree" or some such other comment that lets me know what I shared has been read.

Thank you for your work, your comment that discussed real life support groups and how much we all need to exchange and share.

Having Alzheimer's these past 3+ years, knowing it was building years before, I was devastated learning the cause of my problems. When I was able to accept this cause as the reason for them I resolved to do something good with this disease so long as I have to suffer through the crap it produces.

Writing is my biggest outlet for doing this. I can share my experience as it is from the inside and hopefully someone can find help from the recitation of my experience and reactions to coping with it.

Thanks for your comment and your blog Kerry. I will sign on as a follower.

  4. Mike:
I finally found you or at least I am pretty sure this is your blog. I am anxious to read your past posts and have to say how much I admire your resolve to rise above this disease and reach out through your writings to those of us who are dealing with this everyday. I so look forward to reading your perspective from the inside as opposed to me looking from the outside. I am hoping that it will give me even more of an understanding what my dear mother is going through.
Look for my comments and keep up the good fight.
    Sincerely,
    Kerry Runyeon
